Today Governor Charlie Crist endorsed Tom Rooney for Florida’s 16th Congressional District. Former State Representative Joe Negron, Representative William Snyder (R-Stuart) and Palm Beach County Commissioner Karen Marcus joined Governor Crist for the announcement.
“I know from first-hand experience that Tom has the character and integrity necessary to serve as a member of Florida’s Congressional Delegation,” said Governor Crist. “As a veteran of the United States Army and former Assistant Attorney General of the State of Florida, his commitment to public service is apparent in his dedication to his work and his loyalty to the citizens of our country.”
“Tom is a conservative leader who believes in the ideals of lower taxes, less government and more freedom,” said Representative Negron. “Together, his military, legal and public service experience make him uniquely qualified to serve the people of Florida’s 16th Congressional District.”
“I had the great fortune of working for then Attorney General Crist as a prosecutor and now I am honored that Governor Crist has endorsed my campaign for Congress,” said Tom Rooney. “We will continue to work hard to take back Florida’s 16th district and with the Governor’s help we are closer to making that a reality.”
Florida State House Representative Mike Grant has endorsed Tom Rooney in the race for Florida’s 16th Congressional district.
“Tom Rooney is a true conservative who will work hard for us when he gets to Washington, said Rep. Grant. “Over the past eighteen months Tom has demonstrated his dedication to the people of Charlotte County by making over 35 trips to the county and building a strong grassroots network. I know Tom will stand up for Southwest Floridians when he gets elected. He is a conservative leader we can trust.”
Representative Mike Grant currently represents district 71 in the Florida State House, which includes Charlotte, Sarasota and Lee Counties.
“I am honored to have the support of Representative Grant,” said Tom Rooney. “When I get to Washington I will fight to ensure the people of Southwest Florida are well represented. It’s time for new conservative leadership in Washington that will work for the people, not the special interests.”
Today Tom Rooney launched the first television commercial of the campaign titled “Right Thing.” The commercial discusses lowering taxes, reducing spending, finding solutions to high gas prices, and getting tough on illegal immigration.
Today Tim Mahoney voted with Nancy Pelosi to adjourn the House and go on vacation without taking action to lower gas prices. Republican leaders have stayed on the house floor to debate the energy crisis.
“Families in Florida are struggling with high prices at the pump, it’s inexcusable that Tim Mahoney and the Democrats would leave town without acting on any real solutions,” said Rooney Spokesman Jeff Ostermayer. “The people of South Florida deserve leadership in Washington that will fight for a comprehensive energy bill to lower gas prices.”

I will fight to ensure the industry is not bogged down by unnecessary government regulation and can continue to thrive.”

On Tuesday two members of Florida’s GOP Congressional delegation enthusiastically endorsed former Army Captain Tom Rooney in his bid for the U.S. Congress. “Tom exemplifies what it means to be a clear and consistent conservative,” Representative Connie Mack said on behalf of the two members. “On the issues of fiscal responsibility, winning the war against terrorism, and promoting shared mainstream conservative values – Tom Rooney is the candidate that will stick to his principles and never waiver once he gets to Congress.”
“I am honored to have the endorsement of two of Florida’s most distinguished public servants,” said Tom Rooney. “As Congressman, I hope to work with our entire delegation to secure Florida’s future and our nation’s greatness.”

The ABC is a national association representing nearly 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 78 chapters across the United States. ABC’s membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry.
